Getting read the other critiques for these speakers, I thought I'd give my opinion. I purchased these to replace my Logitech R-10s mainly because of their lack of clarity and bass response. What is the point in getting compact speakers that do not sound great enough to make you want to listen to them?!
My very first impression was that these X-140s are a bit larger and a lot heavier and far more substantial. They look and feel like they are built to final. They have two extra characteristics too - a tone control for treble/bass balance, and an aux stereo minijack input on the front so you can connect an MP3 player without having disconnecting them from your Pc.
The X-140s are two-way as you can see by way of the metal grilles. The top tweeter cone takes care of high frequencies even though the bottom cone takes care of the bass. Splitting factors up like this gives substantially superior clarity and bass response. The sound quality of these is sooooo considerably improved than the R-10s with no taking up significantly more desk space. The most impressive thing is the stereo imaging - these honestly produce a realistic sound field if you sit in the middle.
Another significant plus for me is that they come with a normal mains plug rather than 1 of those bulky transformer plugs like the R-10s which take up way too a lot room and usually cease you applying the subsequent-door sockets.
Some other reviewers have commented that these speakers do not go really loud. Well, I am not confident that you can anticipate to use two.five watt desktop Computer speakers for a house party. I want some thing that sounds certainly excellent without having taking up too a lot space. If I wanted serious volume/bass I'd will need one thing with a subwoofer, but then it takes up loads of space and irritates the neighbours! And these are only £15 which is a important bargain.
To summarise, I am certainly happy with these. They are nicely made, built to last, give exceptional sound for their size/energy, and look like they'll final for years. You have to give five stars for getting all this for £15.
I am actually amazed by the sound excellent of these for the cost! I bought these mainly because my new Xbox360 couldn't operate with my old two.1's. These are even much better than those, which had a sub-woofer!
