Costumer Reviews
i dont often write critiques, but as i struggled to acquire info on this model, i believed i'd try and dish out some info and my thoughts on this television.
the television arrived three days after putting our order, city link had been really wonderful (read a lot of negative stuff about them). i couldnt support laughing when i saw the size of the box! placing the stand on single handed is a bit of a mission, i would advise you to get an individual to support with that. we are exceptionally content with it so far. this is my 1st plasma, and like countless persons that havent had a plasma just before, i had my reservations about them. you commonly hear horror stories about screen burn, buzzing and colour problems... but plasmas do have a much better picture than something (that is, until amoled is around)
1st of all, i have seasoned no screen burn or image retention whatsoever, and i have had some marathon xbox sessions! the screen is reflective and this was the 1st factor that put me off plasmas in the past.., im the 1st individual to admit that when you see them in a retailer with the vivid lights reflecting off them, they look negative, but in a dwelling its completely distinctive. when the tv is on, reflection and glare is minimal, only noticeable in the course of dark scenes in a nicely lit room. the picture is incredible, i thought 51" + 720p = massive pixels. basically not the case. ive observed a lot of 1080p lcd's and this genuinely puts them to shame, the picture just looks sharper and much more all-natural, i havent even noticed any juddering on rapidly moving scenes, its super smooth! this goes for blu ray, upscaled dvd's, freeview and downloaded motion pictures.
there are some controls on the lower proper hand side of the bezel, i was lead to think in some reviews that this was a 'remote only' television. the controls are the usual standby, volume and so on, but they are touch sensitive rather than buttons and are practicly invisible ... i didnt even notice them till i cleaned it! one more plus (for me at least) is that theres no distracting led that you get when most tv's are on... the older samsungs had been rediculous! this just has a dim red standby light when its off.
the customisation regarding image settings are brilliant, with some tweaking or a google search, you can come up with some excellent settings. i was also shocked how good the freeview reciever and epg are, i expected freeview to appear a bit rubbish, but its as wonderful as you could ask for an sd reciever.
there arent honestly any poor points to this tv... and ive been searching for problems! if i had to nit-choose, id say the stand is a bit wobbly and is missing the handy swivel that most other sets have, the speakers arent that good... they do the job ok, but you cant expect wonderful virtual surround sound in a set this thin, also, the typical picture settings have to have a tweak as they seriously dont do this set justice... thx would have been good :) general, im real happy with this tv, beatiful display, super thin bezel, loads of customisable alternatives, built in usb two. media player, super smooth 600hz, game mode is brilliant. also this television is named the PN51D450 outside of europe, understanding that helped with finding far more reviews.
so in conclusion, for just more than £500, you cant go wrong with this television, if like me, youve been brainwashed into thinking you have to have 1080p, dont believe it... i personally rate the picture on this as a single of the preferred i have seen, and ive noticed a lot, plasmas just look better than something else at the moment :)
oh, dont forget your hdmi leads!
EDIT!
a couple of months on and i have started to discover a bit of image retention... i was watching snooker and the score on the bottom of the screen stays in the very same spot for hours and temporarily 'burn' an image into the screen. it does vanish just after around a minute and it doesnt happen sometimes, but my earlier statement about no retention is false, it does happen, but it is minimal. it got me worried about television station logos like mtv or e4 that are consistently in the corner, but it definitely isnt a result in for concearn... ive had it around four instances in as quite a few months.
also sometimes notice buzzing on highly, particularly rare occasions... when loading the online(through an external source), you normally get a blank page for a handful of seconds ahead of the pictures/text loads... in this circumstance, the screen can be a really vivid colour and likes to buzz, its not truly a difficulty, just worth mentioning. it also likes to pump out heat (not a trouble in winter!) and the remote control can be a bit unresponsive at times as i believe the ir transmitters are a bit rubbish, plus the control looks and feels a bit low cost (im searching for a much better samsung remote thats compatible with this tv). apart from that its a awesome set, im put to use to the size now and the novelty has worn off, but i still give it five stars :)
My loved ones and I have only had this television for a couple of weeks but are all over the moon with it. Picture quality and sound are really wonderful and it was dead very easy to set up. Only complaint is that the zero cost to view timer is out of cinque but i am confident that will be readily rectified as soon as I get time to read how to do it. A star invest in for families on a budget!
